Give Winter Blues a Citrus Kick!
It’s been a long winter, everyone’s ready for spring to arrive. Shrug off the last of the winter blues with this new fresh DIY cleaning spray. Greening your cleaning routine has many benefits. Not only will it save you money, but it will also reduce the number of harsh chemicals in your home and may help save the planet! All you need are a few household pantry items.
Gather your supplies:
- 32 oz. Mason jar
- Citrus peel (enough to fill your 32 oz. mason jar)
- White distilled vinegar
- 2 cups of water
- 2 tsp of unscented dish soap
- 10-12 drops of essential oil – lemon or sweet orange (optional)
- Spray bottle
How to make it
- Tightly fill your 32 oz. Mason jar with citrus peel. You can use lemons, limes, oranges, tangerines, or grapefruits – whatever you have on hand.
- Now, take the white distilled vinegar and fill your jar to the top. Screw on the lid and place it under your kitchen sink or in the pantry—away from sunlight and heat sources.
- After several days, the citrus will have infused and be ready for use. For a stronger cleaner, allow the solution to sit for at least 2 weeks.
- Add 2 cups of water, 2 tsp of your preferred dish soap, and 10 -12 drops of essential oil (if using).
- Screw-on lid and shake well.
Note: Citrus-infused vinegar is one of the best natural cleaners you can make at home, and it can replace chemical cleaners. Don’t use this cleaner on natural stone countertops or tiles. Vinegar is an acid, extended use can cause pitting in natural stone.
