Enjoying summer involves more than just cold drinks on the patio! Take a little time this spring to ready your home for the summer months ahead. Here’s how:
Ceiling fans: Celling fans make hot summer days more tolerable. Give them a thorough cleaning with a high duster before use. If you don’t have a high duster handy, dampen a microfibre cloth with a solution of 2 tablespoons of white vinegar and 3 cups of water and wipe each blade. Once clean, ensure the fan is rotating counter clockwise, pushing cool air downwards.
Air conditioning units: Now’s the time to prepare your air conditioner, well in advanced of the warm weather. Since your air conditioner is used regularly during the summer, make sure to change the filter as needed to ensure proper functionality.
Thermostat: Install a programmable or remote thermostat system such as the Nest or Ecobee. This will allow you to keep temperatures consistent from wherever you decide to travel this summer.
Window coverings: Shutters, blinds and curtains make a big difference when outside temperatures begin to rise. Keep window coverings closed during peak hours to keep interior temperatures cooler.
