We all know spring is a great time to give your home a deep clean. But do you ever include your appliances? Appliances are work horses, all year long, but are often left off your cleaning schedule. It’s only fair to give them a little TLC.
Here are a few tips for spring cleaning your appliances like a pro:
Deep Clean Your Refrigerator
Your refrigerator is one of the most important appliances in your home, so this spring it’s time you give it the royal treatment. Start by completely emptying the refrigerator. Next: wipe down the shelves and drawers with a warm, soapy cloth. After that, use a baking soda paste for a deep clean; one tablespoon of baking soda with a couple drops of water does the trick. Scrub on the paste with a damp microfibre cloth, and wash off the paste with a clean microfibre cloth.
Declutter and Clean Your Freezer
Your freezer is another important appliance that needs to be cleaned regularly. Start by emptying the freezer and wiping down the shelves and drawers with a warm, soapy cloth. Then, use a baking soda paste to clean the inside of the freezer. Once you’re finished, wipe down the inside of the freezer with a clean cloth.
Clean your Oven
Start by removing the oven racks and washing them in the sink with hot, soapy water. Then, use a baking soda paste (like you used for the refrigerator) to clean the inside of the oven. Once you’re finished, wipe down the inside of the oven with a clean cloth. Some models have a self-cleaning setting, if you’re one of the lucky ones, put it to work for you!
Microwave
Microwaves should be cleaned daily, but if you’re not in that habit, there’s lots of work to do. First, wipe down the inside of the microwave with a damp cloth. Then, place a bowl of water and vinegar in the microwave and heat it up for two minutes. Once the water and vinegar have heated up, let them sit in the microwave for five minutes. The steam will loosen caked on bits, down the inside of the microwave with a clean cloth. Finally, give your microwave plate the red carpet treatment; soak it in a warm bath of water, dish soap and a drop of vinegar.
Dishwasher Cleaning Cycle
All dishwashers have some type of self-clean setting, so find your operating manual as soon as you can, and put the appliance to work for you! Can’t find your manual? Most are now available online. You can find your machine’s model name and number on the inside sticker. And don’t forget to clean the filter. Never done it? Here’s a get to know your dishwasher video from Bosch Home Appliances. Bosch recommends cleaning the filter every two months.
