Finally, barbecue season is here!
Before you get cooking this spring, give your beloved BBQ a quick clean. Here’s how:
Charcoal
- To clean the cooking grate, heat the grill on high for ten to fifteen minutes. Once hot, remove any leftover debris by scrubbing the grill with a wire grill brush.
- Once cooled, discard ashes from the bottom of the BBQ.
- Mix a solution of mild dish soap and water and clean the inside of the BBQ using a steel-wool pad.
- Empty the ash catcher.
- Clean the lid, bowl and ash catcher with mix of mild dish soap and water. Wipe down with a damp microfibre cloth thereafter.
Gas
- Heat the grill on high and remove any baked on food using a wire grill brush.
- Once cooled, disconnect the propane tank then remove the grilling grates and metal plates, then soak them in a bucket of warm water and dish soap.
- While the grates and plates are soaking, cover the heating elements with tinfoil, and scrub the inside of the BBQ using a steel-wool pad. The tinfoil will prevent any debris from falling onto the heating element. Once you have removed all of the debris, wipe the inside of your BBQ using a damp microfibre cloth and throw the tinfoil away.
- Remove the drip tray from the BBQ and place it into the bucket of warm water and dish soap to soak for five minutes.
- Remove the grates, plates and drip tray and wipe them down using a damp microfibre cloth.
- Return the grates, plates and drip tray to the BBQ and close the lid. With a damp microfibre cloth, wipe down the exterior. Once the exterior is clean, reconnect the propane tank.
