There are so many great ways to celebrate Halloween! If kids are too young (or too old) to trick or treat, here are different fun ideas:
- Plan an old-fashioned Halloween party for kids with classic games, such as bobbing for apples and a race to eat donuts hanging from a string. Visit a dollar store for fun decorations.
- Watch a Halloween movie (‘It’s the Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown’ is a classic). If you can show it outside, great. If not, decorate the basement with a Halloween theme.
- Read scary stories to your kids (the scary quotient dependent on kids’ ages) with the lights turned down low, eerie background music, lots of orange and black treats, such as jelly beans, and carefully lit candles.
- Spend an afternoon making fun treats, such as spider cupcakes and sugar cookies shaped like vampires and bats.
- Have a pumpkin carving party. Asks guests to bring their own pumpkins and carving tools. As everyone works on their Jack O’Lantern, collect pumpkin seeds on a baking sheet. Toast them in the oven, salt and share! When everyone’s done, display all the carved pumpkins together, and be sure to post pictures on Facebook! Give awards for Best Pumpkin, Scariest Jack O’Lantern, etc.
