Your pillows are one of the most important components of a good night sleep, and therefore, it’s imperative to keep them fresh, clean and in good condition.
Start by folding your pillow in half, lengthwise. If your pillow does not spring back to its original shape, it’s time to purchase a new pillow.
If your pillow does spring back into shape, the cleaning experts at MOLLY MAID suggest using these helpful tips, to keep your pillows fresh.
Down and fibre pillows
Before cleaning your down or fibre pillows, check the tag for any special washing or care instructions. If none are present, it is safe to place them in your washing machine. A front-loading washing machine is recommended for best results; however, a top-loading machine can be used, as long as it doesn’t have an agitator. The agitator in a top-loading machine can cause damage to your pillows, and therefore is not recommended. It is best to wash two pillows at a time to ensure the load stays ‘balanced’. Make sure to wash your pillows on a gentle cycle in warm water. Tumble dry the pillows on low heat, removing them often during the cycle, to give them a fluff.
Foam pillows
If you have foam pillows in your home, it is important to machine wash their removable covers only, and not the pillow itself. Foam pillows, when wet, get heavy and tear easily. To clean the foam part of your pillow, vacuum both sides using a soft brush attachment. You can also place the foam pillow into a front-loading dryer, for 15-20 minutes, using an air-only cycle. Both methods will help remove any debris from your pillows.
