Winter-proof your Front Hall's featured image

When the seasons change, the front hall often takes the brunt of it – with clutter and dirt piling up from the get-go. Here are professional house cleaning tips on winter-proofing the front hall from the experts at MOLLY MAID. De-cluttering and reorganizing will help to keep the space clean and prepare for winter too.

Remove everything from the hallway. Clear any countertops, remove footwear and mats, and another front hall mats. Clear out coats, umbrellas and umbrella stands, etc.

Wipe all surfaces, including doors and frames. Wash the floors, windows and any mirrors. It's great to have a mirror in the front hallway too so you can have a last look before you leave – plus it adds light.

Vacuum the whole area including shelves, corners, etc.

Survey the area and consider any changes that would help accommodate items easier, such as coats and shoes. Do you need a coat rack? An umbrella stand? A new mat for shoes? Consider hanging up a peg rail for coats, especially if you have kids.

Purge items that you have removed. Store summer sports equipment and other items elsewhere. Go through coats and footwear and store any summer items elsewhere.

It's a good idea to limit the number of pairs of shoes for each person; do the same with coats. An over-the-door shoe holder is perfect for organizing.

There should be a container for incoming mail and keys, so you always know where they are.

Plan on where everyone will keep their winter wear such as mitts, scarves and hats. If there's a closet, provide containers.
