With shorter days and longer evenings setting in, it can often be a daunting task to find activities to entertain your family. The cleaning experts at MOLLY MAID suggest digging into your art supply box and get crafty this season. Here are some fall crafting ideas to get you started:
Leaf Rubbing
Fall is the perfect time to create fun pictures and seasonal cards using leaf impressions. Here’s how:
You will need:
- Crayons
- White paper (cardstock or printer paper)
- Leaves
- Glue stick
- Pens
Instructions:
Place a leaf under a white piece of paper, with the veins facing up. Holding the paper and leaves still, use a crayon to lightly colour over the paper, so that the impression of the leaf appears. Cut your leaf impression out, by cutting around the outline of the leaf shape. You can use your leaf cut out to make a festive fall card.
Fall Collage
Creating a fall collage is a great activity for the whole family to enjoy. Here’s how:
You will need:
- Leaves of all colours and shapes
- Paper
- Glue
- Pencil crayons or markers
- Glitter (optional)
Instructions:
Start by collecting leaves of all shapes, sizes and colours. Once you have gathered enough leaves, place them between the pages of a heavy book. This will help press or flatten your leaves to make it easier for collaging. Once you have pressed your leaves for a couple of days, arrange them on your paper and glue them into place. You can even personalize your collage further by drawing designs on your leaves, or by adding glitter and stickers.
Family Tree
This family tree display makes for a great project or special gift for any time of year.
You will need:
- Twig with plenty of smaller branches
- Vase or pot
- Orange, red & yellow paper (for leaves)
- Pens
- String / pipe cleaners
Instructions:
Place your twig into a vase or pot. Use your coloured paper to cut out leaves. Make sure to cut out enough leaves for each family member. Write each family member’s name on the front of each leaf. On the back, write one thing you love about that member of your family. Punch a hole at the top of each leaf and use string or pipe cleaner to tie them to your tree.
Fall Garland
Fall garland makes for a beautiful fall display that can be hung inside or outside of your home.
You will need:
- Red, yellow and orange paper
- Brown or red crayons or chalk
- String
- Tape
- Autumn leaves
Instructions:
Lay your leaves vein side up on the table. Place the paper on top of your leaves and lightly colour over the paper with chalk or crayon to create an impression. Cut out the leaves. Secure each leaf impression to the piece of string with tape, spreading them out evenly along the cord. Hang your fall garland for all to see!
