Just because we use soap when we shower, doesn’t mean our shower stays clean. Here are some tips to keep your shower in pristine condition.
Showerhead nozzle: If you notice your shower head is lacking even water flow and pressure, it may be time to clean it. Start by pouring a generous amount of white vinegar into a large freezer bag so that the shower head is completely submerged. Tie the freezer bag in place and let it soak overnight. Remove the freezer bag in the morning and run the water to rinse.
Shower curtains and liner: Remove your shower curtain and liner and place them into the washing machine. Add one cup of baking soda and a few old towels to the load and launder on a gentle cycle using warm water. During the rinse cycle, add half a cup of white vinegar to the wash. The white vinegar will help remove any soap scum and build up on your shower curtain and liner. Once the cycle is complete, hang the curtain and liner to dry. This process should be repeated every six months.
Grout: Spray the grout with warm water then, using a stiff bristled scrub brush, scrub the grout in a circular motion, rinse and let dry. If more elbow grease is needed, mix two parts baking soda with one part water, to make a paste and apply it to your grout. Once the grout is covered, mix a solution of one part white vinegar and one part water into a spray bottle. Spray the solution directly onto the paste and let it sit until the foaming has stopped. Use your stiff bristled scrub brush to clean the grout then, rinse with water.
Shower door: The same solution used to clean your grout can also be used to clean your shower doors. Apply the paste to the shower door and scrub using a clean microfibre cloth. Rinse the shower door with white vinegar to eliminate any residue.
Shower stall: Generously spray the interior of your shower with a natural all-purpose cleaner. Run a hot shower until steam begins to build. Once the steam has built up, turn off the water, close the door and let the steam and all-purpose cleaner work its magic for 20 minutes. Finally, buff the interior dry using a clean microfibre cloth.
