The biggest secret to keeping a condominium clean is ‘living small’ which means you have to reduce the number of items you own down to the essentials.
Here are some condo living – and cleaning – rules.
- Pare it down. The more you have, the more you have to clean. The first thing you should do is go through everything you own and de-clutter. Throw away any garbage or broken items. Donate any items you haven’t used in the last three months but are still in good shape. Keep only what you use often and really love.
- Use multi-purpose furniture. According to interior designer David Kaihoi, selecting multi-purpose furniture is a great way to keep clutter down. Select couches and benches that double as hidden storage units. This way, items such as blankets can be kept in room, without taking up any extra space.
- Avoid buying things you don’t need: Although shopping can be fun, avoid cluttering your condo with items you don’t need. According to Apartment Therapy, it’s important to follow this golden rule: if you don’t love or won’t use it frequently, why buy it?
- Clean as you go. In a small space, it is much more efficient to clean as you go. Don’t let dishes pile up or dust collect. Keep your cleaning supplies and cleaning caddy in an easy-to-reach place such as under the sink. Wash dishes as you cook. After dinner, clean the remaining dishes and give your counters a quick wipe down. Vacuum or sweep the kitchen floor while you wait for the kettle to boil. Vacuum the living room area while you watch your favourite TV show. The more you do on the go, the less cluttered your space will be.
