Help! Burned-on Chocolate Destroyed my Pot!'s featured image

So, you decide to make a batch of homemade chocolate truffles for your loved one this Valentine’s Day. Everything goes according to plan. The truffles look delicious and they taste even better. The problem now lies in the difficult cleanup, specifically with the pot in which they were made. You may have turned away for only a second and now the remaining chocolate burned the pot! It may look destroyed but trust us, it’s not as bad as it seems. With a few household items (and some elbow grease), and our friendly cleaning tips from your local Cleaning Service experts at MOLLY MAID, your pot will be back to its former glory in no time!

  1. Using a strong spoon or flat metal surface, scrape out as much of the burned-on chocolate as possible. Be careful not to scratch your pot.
  2. Fill the pot with enough water to cover the burned area and let it soak
  3. Add a cup of baking soda and a cup of salt to the water and stir with a wooden spoon.
  4. Place the pot on the stove on high heat and bring to a boil. Stir continually with the wooden spoon. As the water boils, carefully scrape and loosen the burned debris. Don’t rush this step. It could take up to 5 minutes.
  5. Pour the water and loosened debris through a colander to keep debris from clogging your sink.
  6. Using a scouring pad and hot water, the remaining debris should scrub out. This is where the elbow grease comes in to play!
  7. Rinse well with hot water and your pot should be as a good as new.
  8. If this method doesn’t work, it’s time to bring in the superpower: vinegar. Pour enough vinegar into the pot to cover the remaining burnt mess. Bring to a boil. As soon as it boils, move to a cool element. Immediately add a cup of baking soda. It will bubble. Let the science experiment cool for 5 minutes. Scrub with a stainless steel wool brush. The vinegar shock method always does the trick!

PRO TIP: There are certain sweets that are quite high maintenance when you turn up the heat:  chocolate, sweetened condensed milk, and caramel are some just to name a few. Every stove, whether it’s electric or gas, heats to the beat of its own drum. It’s better to err on the side of low-low heat and work at the stove longer than try to cut some corners and save time. When making stovetop delicacies, avoid all distractions! Turn off the music, whisk everyone out of the kitchen and make sure you’re not in a rush. Happy Valentine’s Day!
