Tips to Making a Small Room Tall
It’s amazing how an interior decorator can transform a space by integrating a specific layout, piece of furniture or just space-specific colour. While it may seem like magic, it’s actually very scientific. We asked design experts for some simple tips homeowners can try themselves. This is what they recommend:
Decorate with Low-slung Furniture
Furnishing your room with items that are low to the ground, like low profile couches and stylish poufs create the illusion of higher ceilings by creating more distance between the top of the furniture and the ceiling.
Hang Long Mirrors
Mirrors make any space feel larger as they reflect a lot of light. Including long mirrors in your decor, as with tall floor lamps and tall bookcases draws the eye upward, making the room seem taller.
Install Pot Lights
Low hanging lights will not help make a small room tall. In fact, they will do just the opposite. Pot Lights installed directly into the ceiling draw attention away from any shortcomings.
Hang Curtains Up High
You don’t have to hang curtains right on the window or directly above it. Create height by raising curtain rods higher, which will give the allusion that the windows are taller than they actually are.
Include Bold Floor Coverings
It all comes down to what we accentuate when we want to transform a space. Bold floor coverings will keep the focus at ground level and away from ceiling height. Much like white walls and a white ceiling will make walls seem taller by blurring boundaries.
