Keeping your kitchen tidy can be quite a difficult task. To help combat the day to day woes of an untidy kitchen, the professional cleaning experts at MOLLY MAID suggest implementing these helpful tips.

Clear: Remove as much clutter as possible from the surfaces in your kitchen. Return items such as clean dishes and containers to their rightful places, once you have finished using them. Find cupboard space for items you don’t use as often, such as your toaster oven or microwave. The more open space on your kitchen surfaces, the easier it is to clean. Make sure to wipe down your kitchen counters, after each use, using a damp microfibre cloth.

Clean as you go: Cleaning-up as you go, makes keeping the kitchen tidy, that much easier. When it comes to cooking, the best method to reduce the amount of dishes at the end of the meal, is to clean while you cook. For example, start cleaning any utensils or appliances you used during meal prep; while your food is cooking. After you have finished eating, make sure to put your dirty dishes into the dishwasher, right away. Have each family member take turns washing the dishes after each meal.

Cooking surfaces: Make sure to clean spills on your stovetop, right away using a damp microfibre cloth. Buff the surface using a dry microfibre cloth thereafter to prevent streaking. Wipe down the inside and top of your microwave regularly. Remove the glass plate from inside the microwave, and wash with warm water and dish soap. Use a microfibre cloth to dry the plate, before returning it to the microwave. If you have a coffee machine, give it a wipe regularly as well.

The sink: Your kitchen sink is one of the most frequently used areas in your kitchen, and therefore, it’s important to keep it clean. Rinse your sink out regularly with hot water. Use a damp microfibre cloth to wipe the basin, taps and drain. If more scrubbing power is need, add a tablespoon of baking soda to your microfibre cloth before scrubbing. Rinse the sink thoroughly and dry with a microfibre cloth.

Floors: Sweep or vacuum the kitchen and eating areas once or twice a week. Use a crevice tool to vacuum hard to reach areas such as the space beside the stove and fridge. Vacuum any mats in your kitchen as well. If you have pets, make sure to clean up their eating area too. Wash the floor at least once a week.

Old food: Make sure to check your fridge and cupboards for expired food on a bi-weekly basis. This will help keep your fridge and cupboards organized, and free up space for your next trip to the grocery store. If you have any food storage containers, make sure to clean them when needed, with warm water and dish soap.
