The Secret to Beautiful Tiles

Whether your tiles are imported, hand-painted or bought online, they impact the look and feel of your room. Some tiles make a bold statement with shape and colour, while others may contribute more subtly, maintaining serenity and clean lines. Whichever style you prefer, knowing how to keep them clean is essential.

The surface of the tiles is not the real problem, it’s the grout. Grout can quickly become dull and discoloured if not cared for properly, which can dramatically affect the overall look. We asked our MOLLY MAID experts how they tackled grout and found some great tips. So, roll up your sleeves and get to work. The results are guaranteed to impress!

No Fancy Tools Required

A toothbrush will get the job done! Grout is porous, which means it has tiny spaces or holes that liquid can pass through trapping dirt and grime. A toothbrush is the perfect size for scrubbing between tiles to loosen the dirt, making it easier to mop or wipe up.

Patience is a Virtue

As with many cleaning products, for the best results, you need to let the cleaning solution do its job. Apply grout cleaner and scrub. Then, let it sit on the surface for at least 5 minutes before scrubbing clean. Rinse and repeat as necessary.

Don’t Forget to Rinse

The hard work is over. All that’s left is to wash the entire floor (or backsplash) with warm soapy water. This is an important step. Not only will it rinse off any remaining grout cleaner, but it will also leave the area shiny and clean.

PRO TIP:   No need to buy expensive chemicals to clean your grout. The best cleaner can be found from common household items. Just mix ½ cup of baking soda, ¼ cup of hydrogen peroxide and 1 tsp of dish soap into a paste
