What better way to spend your summer than by travelling along off-road paths and trails on your mountain bike. If the trail is muddy, all the more challenging and fun.
But muck, dust particles and dirt should be cleaned off once you’re home, to ensure your bike remains in good working condition.
Here’s how:
- Start by hosing your bike down from top to bottom, paying special attention to tire treads, removing any mud, dirt, and sand.
- Next, using a mix of all-purpose cleaner, water and a microfibre cloth, wipe down the bike frame. Use a large stiff bristled scrub brush to clean the tires and a toothbrush to reach any nooks and crannies around the components, bike chain and spokes. Rinse the bike thereafter.
- Let the bike dry completely in the sun for at least 30 minutes.
- Once dry, it’s a good idea to check the alignment and pressure of your tires.
- Take the time to re-lube your chain and any other moving parts. Wipe away any excess lube.
