Post Holiday: Five Neat Ways to Clean the Stove's featured image

Turkey, gravy, cranberries, mashed potatoes, and butter. A delicious meal perhaps?  Sadly no, it’s the leftover food baked onto your stove top. If you’re thinking of reaching for that microfibre cloth next, don’t bother. A quick wipe of the stove top two days after dinner, just won’t cut it. Here are four effective ways to clean a crusty stove.

  • Walnut oil: Oil can help remove grease from your stove top. Put some walnut oil onto a clean microfibre cloth and wipe away the grease. It’s equally effective on the knobs and the control panel too!
  • Lemon and salt: For non-glass stove tops, rub the inside flesh of a lemon onto any grease or food stains. Sprinkle table salt on top and let it sit for 5-10 minutes. Use a damp microfibre cloth to remove the salt and lemon. Lemon is a natural degreaser and the salt acts as a natural abrasive, making them the perfect pair to clean your stove top.
  • White Vinegar: White vinegar is a powerful cleaner. Add some white vinegar into a spray bottle and generously mist the affected areas. Allow the white vinegar to sit for 20 minutes, then wipe clean with a microfibre cloth. If stains continue to persist, sprinkle them with baking soda first and then spray them with vinegar. Let it sit for half an hour, and then use a damp microfibre cloth to wipe the area clean.
  • Baking Soda: Sprinkle baking soda on your cook top. Saturate a couple of tea towels in warm, soapy water, and then lay them over the baking soda. Let it sit for 10-15 minutes and then wipe clean using a microfibre cloth.
