Spring Cleaning Series: Bedrooms's featured image

Bedrooms are usually in need of attention come spring. The professional house cleaners at MOLLY MAID provide this spring cleaning checklist:

Sort through winter clothes and pack them away for storage.Use the three box system (labelled 'Keep', 'Donate' and 'Dispose'). Make sure that sweaters, coats, and other cold weather clothing are stored in clean, cool, dry and dark areas so they're in good shape for next winter.

Sort toys in the kids' room. Consider investing in some storage containers to help make it easier to keep the play area tidy. Having specific storage containers for toys will teach kids to help keep the house tidy by putting their own toys away.

Overhaul the bed. Remove and launder the mattress cover and skirt. Vacuum the mattress, then turn it over and vacuum the other side. Closely inspect mattress pads, pillow covers and all bedding for needed replacement or repairs. Wipe the headboard and wall above the bed. Replace pillow covers. Wash pillows, the duvet and the valance.

If white bedding is looking a bit grey, put it into the washing machine with a brightening agent (natural brighteners include lemon juice and white vinegar). Also, hang whites to dry outside in the sun for extra whitening.

Clean windows and tracks. Vacuum and wipe window tracks. Spray glass cleaner on the glass and use a clean microfibre cloth to wipe across the entire surface. Dust shutters and launder or dry clean curtains.

Clean the ceiling fans. An entire season of dust and buildup will need to be cleaned away before you can use the fan again. Spread out an old sheet below the fan. Dust the blades. Then, wipe each blade with a damp cloth. During the warm months, for cooling effects, fan blades should turn in a counterclockwise direction.
