The French poet, Pierre Reverdy, wrote, “there is no love; there are only proofs of love. Whatever love I might feel in my heart, others will see only my action.” And, how true that is! We all know it’s the little things that really show someone you care. So, this Valentine’s Day, along with the heart-shaped box of candy, do something unexpected for your special someone to make them feel extra loved.
Do their Chores
Get up early and clear snow from their car, take the dog for a walk, or tackle a chore you know they hate doing. You’ll likely hit the jackpot if you take vacuuming or changing the sheets off their chore list! Feeling extra generous? Surprise your loved one by booking a house cleaning service so you can have a romantic lunch date!
Soften their Towels
Towels can become stiff and scratchy when fabric softeners and residue from dryer sheets build up on the fibres. But, you can easily make old towels new again using a few everyday household items. First load your washer with towels on a hot cycle, adding a cup of white vinegar. Don’t add fabric softener or laundry soap, but continue to run the wash, rinse and spin cycle like you normally would. When the load is done, run it again, but this time add a cup of baking soda the same way you added the vinegar. The vinegar and baking soda will strip the residue from the towels leaving them much softer for your partner’s next shower.
Plump up their Pillows
Over time, pillows can become flat and stiff. So, grab your pillows and give it new life. Holding opposite corners, vigorously push in and out diagonally. Repeat with the other two corners, ensuring no corner goes unfluffed. If you have the time, run the pillows through the wash on a delicate cycle. Then, toss them in the dryer on low heat instead of high to avoid clumping. And, don’t forget the tennis balls! Though noisy, thrown in the dryer with pillows, they will beat back the fluff – and plump those pillows up in no time!
Sweeten their Dreams
Everyone could use a good night’s sleep. Make a lavender linen spray for your sweetheart’s pillow and sheets. Studies have shown that lavender helps promote relaxation simply by its scent. Just add a few drops of lavender essential oil to distilled water in a fine-mist spray bottle, shake, then mist, and let your sheets and pillows dry completely. A well-rested partner is sure to thank you in the morning!
