TikTok-Inspired Summer Storage Hack!'s featured image

Let’s be honest, we all have a slight obsession with those satisfying home organization hacks scrolling across our TikTok feed. And the latest one that snagged our attention? Transforming an old, underutilized poof ottoman into a secret summer storage pod! Genius, right? My existing poof was comfy enough for resting feet, but now I know it can be so much more! Enter the Stow Pod – perfect for tucking away those winter woollies now that the sunshine is finally here!

This isn’t just about decluttering – it’s about clever, space-saving solutions that make your home feel lighter and more organized for the summer months. All those bulky sweaters, cozy blankets and winter accessories like hats, scarves and mitts taking up precious closet real estate can now have a stylish, hidden home.

Ready to give your old poof a new purpose? Here’s your step-by-step guide to creating your very own Stow Pod:

Step 1: The Great Emptying

What you’ll need: Your old poof ottoman or one you’ve picked up on Facebook Marketplace or the local second-hand store.

The Tactic: Empty out your poof completely. Give it a good vacuum inside and out to ensure a fresh start.

Step 2: Accessing the Interior

What you’ll need: A seam ripper or sharp scissors (be careful!), and possibly a zipper or Velcro strips.

The Tactic: This is where you get a little creative. Most poofs aren’t designed for storage, so you’ll need to create an opening. Carefully use a seam ripper to open a discreet section along a seam on the bottom or back of the poof. Alternatively, you could cut a small opening and then attach a zipper or Velcro strips for a more secure closure.

Step 3: The Stuffing Bonanza

What you’ll need: Your clean sweaters, blankets, hats, scarves and mitts. Consider using vacuum storage bags (you can find them at Canadian Tire) to compress bulky items and maximize space.

The Tactic: Neatly fold or roll your summer-bound items and start filling the hollow interior of your poof. Arrange them so the poof maintains its shape as much as possible.

Step 4: The Grand Closure

What you’ll need: Depending on your chosen method in Step 2 – either the existing seam to carefully stitch closed with a needle and thread, or the zipper/Velcro strips to fasten.

The Tactic: Securely close the opening you created. If you opted for a simple seam rip, take your time to stitch it closed neatly. If you added a zipper or Velcro, ensure it’s fully fastened.

Step 5: Enjoy Your Stow Pod!

What you’ll need: Nothing but admiration for your ingenuity!

The Tactic: Place your newly transformed Stow Pod back in its spot. It now serves its original purpose as a comfy footrest or extra seating, while secretly safeguarding your winter wardrobe until the cooler months return.
