We all know how important it is to keep our bodies hydrated, especially during the summer months. Ordinary water, however, can sometimes lose its appeal over time. The professional residential cleaning experts at MOLLY MAID recommend trying these fun water infused beverages to help give your water some flare!
- The simplest way to infuse water is with fruit and vegetable juices. Chop up fruit or vegetables, place them in a pitcher of water and put the pitcher in the fridge for an hour or two. Once you have let the water stand, remove the pitcher from the fridge and enjoy the delicious light flavour of your infused water.
- You can also puree your fruit, water and other ingredients together, straining the mixture to extract all the pulp, leaving you with a translucent refreshing drink!
- If you want to add more flavour to your infused water, select an agua fresca recipe. Agua fresca, meaning ‘cool water’ in Spanish combines various fruits, sugar, sweeteners, cereals and vegetables to create a deliciously refreshing summer beverage. Some fruits and vegetables that can be used to strengthen the flavour of your agua fresca include: peaches, strawberries, various melons or even a cucumber/lime combination. You can also try a watermelon lime combination as the lime will ‘bring out’ the flavours of the other ingredients.
- Try inventing your own recipes for fruit-infused water if you understand the basics of how it’s done. Why not try infusing your water with herbs or even flowers? Herbs like mint and rosemary can add strong flavours to your beverage by steeping them in a pitcher of water and letting it stand in the fridge. Mint is delicious on its own or combined with pineapple juice. Mint is also great to mixed with cucumber or cucumber-citrus combinations. Lavender and other edible flower petals can also stand alone or be contrasted with herbs and fruits.
Tip: If your water infused recipe calls for sugar, replace the ingredient with Splenda or add a little bit of honey instead. This will allow you to sweeten your water without adding overly refined sugar to your recipe. You can also include fruits with a higher natural sugar content such as strawberries to increase the sweetness of your beverage.
