Wireless Wonder
The hottest DIY trend in cleaning technology is cleaning slime. This wunderkind removes grime, smudges, fingerprints and germs. If you’re not keen, enlist some crafty kids! All you need is 1½ cups of warm water, ¼ cup of Borax laundry booster and 5 ounces of white glue. It starts out as a gooey mess, but firms up as you mix. Knead with your hands for about 5 min. If the slime sticks to your hands, or will not form into a ball add a couple more tablespoons of borax. This is good for smartphones, laptops, tablets, and keyboards.
FYI: cleaning slime is a bit of a trickster. Knead it into a firm ball before using, then simply dab gadgets to clean. DO NOT let the slime sit on any piece of electronics for more than a second because it will ooze and damage the device.
Old Fashioned Hack
Be warned: Mom’s cell phone may be the dirtiest thing you handle. Research suggests that on average, a touch phone has 25,000 germs per square inch – Eww! To disinfect, use a microfibre cloth with some rubbing alcohol and water. Cotton balls and Q-tips are great tools for cleaning out crevices around buttons and phone cases. And don’t stop there! Ear buds are often neglected – full of wax, dead skin cells and bacteria. Rubbing alcohol dries lightning fast and won’t soak into the ear bud.
Fancy Low Tech Gift
This one’s sure to make her world a little bit brighter. Eyeglasses are forever smudged and foggy, hampering mom from seeing her tech gear clearly. Buy a colourful microfibre cloth and cut out a simple 3-inch heart shape. These magical cloths are the best way to keep glasses streak free.
