Don’t Let Your Fire Fizzle Out: The Importance of Fire Pit Maintenance's featured image

The backyard fire pit is a beacon of warmth, a gathering place for stories and s’mores and the undisputed champion of cozy backyard vibes. But just like your favourite cast iron skillet, fire pits need a little TLC to stay in tip-top shape.

Why Maintain Your Fire Pit?

It’s simple: proper maintenance keeps your fire pit looking sharp, burning efficiently and most importantly, safe for you and your fireside companions. So, how do you go about it?

Regular Every-day Maintenance:

  • Regularly remove ash and debris. For wood-burning pits, a quick sweep with a wire brush after each use can work wonders.
  • Inspect your fire pit for cracks, loose bolts, or rust. Address any issues promptly.
  • When not in use, cover your fire pit with a weatherproof cover. This keeps out rain, snow, and pesky critters.

Seasonal Spruce Up:

  • Come spring, remove the cover and give your pit a once-over for any damage caused by harsh weather. A quick scrub with soapy water (for metal fire pits) can help remove any built-up grime.
  • Before winter’s icy grip takes hold, give your fire pit a thorough cleaning. Remove any leftover debris and cover it with a fire pit cover to shield it from rain, snow and unwanted critters.

Every gas fire pit requires a slightly different maintenance routine. Consult your owner’s manual for specific cleaning instructions and have a qualified professional inspect the gas lines and burner annually.
