Why you Should Care about Mattress Care's featured image

It’s tough enough to get a good night’s sleep these days what with kids, work, stress and other things. Here are a few tips from the cleaning experts at MOLLY MAID to help keep your mattress in the best and most comfortable shape.

Vacuum the mattress regularly to remove dust, dead skin cells and other build-up. Deodorize by sprinkling baking soda over the mattress and leaving for 20 minutes or more. Then vacuum up the natural deodorizer.

Flip or rotate your mattress. Flipping and rotating your mattress every few months will distribute wear patterns so it wears evenly and help lengthen its life. If you have a no-flip pillow top mattress, rotate the mattress instead.

Clean any stains right away. To spot clean, blot up stains when they happen with a damp cloth, then dry cloth. Use a pressing motion not a rubbing motion. Use an enzyme stain remover product to try to remove any old stains – but the older they are, the less likely it is that they will come out. Apply the stain remover to the area, gently rub and wipe up a few minutes later with a cool, damp microfibre cloth. Be sure the mattress is completely dry before you make it up again with your sheets and comforter.

Change bedding weekly. Wash bedding in hot water weekly and dry it, to help control dust mites and keep bedding fresh.

Make the Bed Off-limits as a Play Area. Jumping on the bed can damage the mattress and bed frame – instead bundle up the kids and take them outside to release their energy in the crisp, fresh air!

Use a bed frame or a box spring. Just a mattress on the floor will lose its structural density and could lead to back problems from not having the proper support.

Use mattress covers. Vacuuming the mattress will help to control dust mites and so will a good quality mattress cover that will not only keep out dust mites but will contain spills, stains and dirt. Wash mattress covers regularly too.
