Zero Waste To-Go Kit Essentials
Self-contained and sustainable, a zero waste travel kit is not only eco-friendly but a way to keep germs contained. Build one for every member of your family. It’s simple. Just start with a reusable bag and go from there. While most items are standard, each kit can be personalized. Here are a few suggestions to get you started.
Daily Outing Essentials
Streamlined, this basic kit is perfect for a trip to the park, downtown, to see a friend, a hockey game or to hit the mall.
- Reusable water bottle
- Reusable mug
- Reusable snack container
- Reusable cutlery + cloth napkin
- Hand sanitizer
Weekend Away Essentials
Slightly larger than the Daily Outing kit, the weekend away kit has a few more items necessary for an overnight adventure.
- Reusable water bottle
- Reusable mug
- Reusable snack container
- Reusable cutlery and cloth napkin
- Hand sanitizer
- Natural soap and bar shampoo
- Biodegradable toothbrush and tooth tabs
- Handkerchief
- Sleeping mask
Wash items regularly to keep them fresh. To disinfect a reusable water bottle, all you need is water, white vinegar and a bottle brush. Add a solution of 1-2 tablespoons of vinegar and 1 cup of water into the reusable water bottle. Let the solution stand for approximately 15 minutes. Dip a bottle brush into the solution and scrub the inside and outside of your water bottle. Make sure to clean the mouthpiece well. A quick rinse with soap and water and you’re done. If you’re not fond of the smell of vinegar, baking soda is a good substitute. Simply create a paste with a little water to clean the water bottle inside and out.
