Camp Essentials Every Kids Needs

Summer camps are back! Families across the country are shopping and packing, eager to finally get the kids to camp. With far-reaching benefits, summer camp can make a positive impact on the rest of a child’s life. From the new friends they’ll meet, to the life skills they’ll learn, to the memories they’ll make.

So, help them get on the bus with everything they need to succeed. We’ve pulled together a comprehensive list to get you started, but it’s always a good idea to check in with your child’s camp for their suggestions. Every camp has its own set of rules.

  • Reusable water bottle
  • Comfortable clothing and sturdy shoes
  • A jacket or sweatshirt (weather can be unpredictable)
  • Bathing suit and sunscreen
  • Insect repellant
  • A baseball, bucket, or sun hat with a brim

Overnight campers should bring the following (in addition to the items above):

  • Alarm clock
  • Fan
  • Flashlight (and extra batteries)
  • Multiple sets of socks and undergarments
  • Pajamas/robe (believe it or not an often forgotten item)
  • Extra pair of comfortable shoes (shoes get dirty, and worse, easily wet)
  • Rain gear
  • Flip flops (great for in the shower or by the pool)
  • Water shoes
  • Sleeping bag or extra sheets
  • Bath towel/beach towel
  • Toiletries, including a toothbrush, toothpaste, soap, shampoo, deodorant
  • Backpack
  • 2-week supply of medication per week (if applicable)
  • 2-week supply of contact lens/backup glasses supplies per week (again, if applicable)
  • Spending money ($20 per week is usually a good amount)
