5 Strategies for Sharing Household Chores

Housework has become more of a challenge in our modern world. In many households both partners have careers, the kids’ after-school activities have increased and we just have more stuff. The result? Less downtime and more clutter. So how do you keep the peace and still maintain a clean home? As with any task, teamwork is the key to success!

Divide & Conquer

Work out a plan. Grab your laptop or pen and paper and make a list of all your chores. Big, small, and ugly. Once the list is complete, each person should snag the jobs they don’t mind (and possibly enjoy). Taking out the trash every week may give one of you a sense of accomplishment, while the other enjoys making the bed every morning.

Be Flexible

Divvying up household chores can be tough, especially if you’re trying to find the perfect 50-50 balance. Remember, not all jobs are equal: some jobs are icky, some jobs take more brute strength, while others take more time. Not to mention, our schedules also differ.

Pick Your Battles

Don’t consider a chore an indication of how much or how little your partner loves you. They’re just chores. Unfortunately, we all have different levels of what is acceptable in terms of cleanliness, the key is to meet somewhere in the middle. If there’s a chore that no one wants to take on, again, meet in the middle. Take turns sharing the responsibility. Just make sure when it’s your turn, you get it done.

Do It Together

If all else fails, pick a day to clean the house that suits you both. In tandem, teamwork may be the answer. You tackle the kitchen, while your partner works on the bathroom. One of you starts the laundry while the other makes the bed. With a plan, you can easily clean the house in a few hours.

Wave the White Flag

Of course, if you still find chores are a strain on your relationship, you can always call for help. Our cleaning experts will be in and out before you know it, leaving your home sparkling clean and smelling fresh. After a long day at work, there’s nothing better than opening the door to a professionally cleaned home. And, it’s so much cheaper than couples counseling!
